Aquadive started in the 1960s as a brand that made nothing but dive watches, sold in dive shops beside wetsuits and fins, and its history page names the 1970 Time-Depth Model 50, a 47 mm watch with a built-in oil-filled depth gauge, as its most famous. Cheap quartz watches finished the original company, and the name lay dormant until 2011, when the collector and dive-watch historian Rick Marei revived it. Aquadive is now headquartered in Austria as a brand of Synchron Uhrenmanufaktur in Vienna, part of the Synchron Group alongside the Isofrane and Tropic strap brands, with steel and bronze cases CNC-machined in Germany and the watches assembled in Switzerland. Its bronze model is the Bathyscaphe 100, a compact descendant of the Model 50 milled from a solid block of what the maker calls marine-grade bronze alloy, with no grade given, and rated to 1,000 metres. Fratello, reviewing the first bronze edition, noted that its bronze caseback reads Made in Germany while the dial says Swiss Made.
