How this guide is verified and graded
The Titanium Field Guide is an independent reference. Every one of the 487 entries is checked for titanium content, sourced against the maker, dated, and confidence-graded. This page explains exactly how, so you can judge the data and cite it with confidence.
The inclusion gate: the case must be titanium
A watch enters only if titanium is verified as an exact material token for the case on the maker's own spec page (for example Grade 2, Grade 5, Ti-6Al-4V, or Grade 23), or as a maker-named titanium composite where titanium is the base (for example Ti-Ceramitech). The case is what counts: a titanium bezel or caseback on a steel case does not qualify, and neither does a titanium-coloured coating on steel. Pure non-titanium materials are excluded, including carbon and forged carbon, ceramic-only cases, and every grade of steel. Disqualifying phrases such as 904L, 316L, and "surgical" or "submarine" steel are treated as steel.
Sourcing: maker first
The maker's own spec page is the gold standard. Where a maker page is absent, incomplete, or lagging a new release, a reputable hands-on editorial review that states the exact titanium token is accepted as provisional evidence, cited on the entry, and re-checked against the maker later. A vague "titanium" from an aggregator, a marketplace listing, or a rumour does not qualify. Specifications are never fabricated or padded; a value we cannot verify is left blank and renders as a dash.
Confidence grades
Every entry carries a confidence grade, shown with its Verified date on the entry.
| Grade | What it means |
|---|---|
| High (288) | The titanium grade and key facts are confirmed against the maker or another primary source. |
| Medium (199) | Titanium is confirmed, but a detail is provisional: the grade is undisclosed by the maker, the maker page is unreachable to us, or the token is so far only attested by editorial. These are honestly held and re-checked. |
| Low (0) | Titanium is indicated but the supporting source is weak (for example aggregator-only). Used sparingly. |
Dates and ongoing re-verification
Each entry shows the date it was last verified. Entries are re-checked on a rotation: medium entries are re-read against the maker page to promote them when the gap closes, and high entries are re-checked for price drift, sold-out versus discontinued, and material changes. Discontinued pieces are kept as an archive (tagged "No longer offered") rather than deleted.
Weights
168 entries carry a verified case weight, taken from the maker's published figure or a reputable hands-on. Where a maker publishes only a complete-watch weight (case on its bracelet or strap), that is what is recorded and the entry notes the basis; head-only figures are noted as such. Weights are never estimated from case size.
