Archimede is the watch brand of Ickler GmbH, the Pforzheim case maker that Karl Ickler founded in 1924 and that his family still owns in its fourth generation; aBlogtoWatch, reviewing the Pilot 42 Bronze in 2013, called the brand part of the Ickler family of companies. Ickler says design, CNC machining, finishing, assembly and final inspection all happen in-house, and most of the range runs on Swiss Sellita or ETA movements. In titanium the maker says it uses only Grade 2 (DIN 3.703), for bracelets and clasps as well as cases. The titanium Pilot 42 closes with a sapphire display back, while the antimagnetic OutDoor 41, shielded by a soft-iron inner case to 80,000 A/m, has a solid steel caseback. Archimede's bronze is CuSn8, 92 percent copper and 8 percent tin, left untreated so it patinas, with a bronze crown and a 316L steel back, which aBlogtoWatch thought a sensible way to keep a green ring off the wrist. Buyers can try the whole range at the Pforzheim showroom.
