Edouard Heuer founded the company in Saint-Imier in 1860. The TAG prefix arrived in 1985, when the TAG Group bought a majority, and LVMH has owned the brand since 1999, with headquarters now in La Chaux-de-Fonds, according to Monochrome's brand history, which also singles out the Carrera of 1963 and the Monaco that Steve McQueen wore in Le Mans. Its titanium runs from the Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph, which aBlogtoWatch describes in sand-blasted Grade 2 for case and bracelet alike, up to the Monaco Split-Seconds, a Vaucher-based rattrapante whose movement plates and bridges are titanium as well (SJX). One version of that watch is cased in what TAG Heuer calls TH-Titanium, which SJX identifies as crystallized titanium: controlled heating grows the metal's crystals in two structures, and the boundary between them leaves the visible pattern. Its carbon work centres on the TH-Carbonspring, a hairspring made of carbon, and Monochrome reports that the Monaco Flyback built around it is made almost entirely of forged carbon.
