Panerai Luminor Forged Titanium (PAM01629)

The PAM01629 was Panerai's first forged titanium case: two grades of titanium bonded by heat and pressure under a forging hammer, leaving wave-like patterns in contrasting greys that differ from one case to the next. Panerai uses it for the case middle, bezel and crown-protecting bridge, and says it is 40 percent lighter than steel. The shape follows the 1960s Ref. 6152/1 made for the Italian Navy's commando frogmen, a 47 mm cushion case with integrated lugs, a little slimmer than the original, rated to 100 m. The anthracite sun-brushed sandwich dial has beige Super-LumiNova on its lower plate and the hands, with small seconds at 9, under a domed sapphire that distorts the edge of the dial the way the old Perspex crystals did. Inside is the hand-wound P.3000 with twin barrels and three days of reserve.
