What is in the basket

227 watches from 79 brands, listed between $100.99 and $177,400. The basket leans heavily toward microbrands, since they publish their prices in a form code can read, so every comparison here is also split by maker type.

How this is measured

The basket was chosen once, on 7 October 2026, from every titanium watch in the guide that is on sale with a US price the maker lists. A watch went in only when a script could read its price from the maker's page and two separate reads agreed with the price the guide holds, which is the check that the script is reading the right watch. No brand has more than 6 watches in it, chosen across that brand's price range, so a single large range cannot set the index. The members do not change from month to month.

Each month a script reads every member's price from the maker's own page on the same day, and every reading is kept, unchanged prices included, which is what makes the share repriced a measured figure. A price counts as changed when it moved by a dollar or more. The price recorded is the list price, never a sale price: where a store shows a sale beside the regular price, the regular one is read. A watch whose page does not answer in a given month is left out of that month's comparison and counted as unread, never guessed at. The basket average counts unchanged watches as zero.

This is a measure of what makers charge for the watches in it, which lean toward microbrands and toward makers that sell direct, and it says nothing about discounts at retailers. It is separate from the price tracker, which logs every price change the guide sees across the whole catalog but cannot say how many watches did not change. The figures are free to cite with a link to this page.
