Ressence Type 5

Ressence is the Antwerp brand the industrial designer Benoît Mintiens founded in 2010, and the Type 5 is its dive watch. A central hand gives the minutes, while the hours, a 90-second runner and an oil thermometer sit on satellite discs that orbit the dial. The upper chamber holds 3.57 ml of oil, which makes the convex titanium dial look printed onto the domed sapphire and keeps it legible underwater, with bellows taking up the oil's expansion. There is no crown, so it winds and sets through the caseback, which locks for diving, and magnets carry the time up from a modified ETA 2824/2 with 36 hours of reserve. The case is Grade 5 titanium, 46 mm by 15.5 mm and rated to 100 m, and in this Black Black version it is black; SJX identified the coating as DLC when the 5BB arrived in 2016. aBlogtoWatch found it wears well for its size. It lists at EUR 40,850.
