Grand Seiko Evolution 9 Hi-Beat Night Birch SLGH029

The Night Birch is the after-dark twin of Grand Seiko's White Birch: the same deeply textured dial pattern, taken from the birch forests around the brand's Shizukuishi workshop, rendered in black as if lit by the moon. The case and bracelet are High-Intensity Titanium, Grand Seiko's own alloy, which it says shines brighter than ordinary titanium and resists scratches better, so the watch keeps a polished look without the weight of steel. Inside is the 9SA5, a high-beat automatic at 36,000 vibrations an hour whose Dual Impulse Escapement and twin barrels still manage about 80 hours of reserve, rated to within plus five and minus three seconds a day. It is 40 mm across, 11.7 mm thick and 47 mm lug to lug, with a box sapphire crystal and a see-through caseback. Grand Seiko has since withdrawn it, and it listed at $12,600.
