Grand Seiko Evolution 9 Spring Drive Diver 200m (SLGA015)
The SLGA015 is Grand Seiko's Spring Drive diver in High-Intensity Titanium, which the brand says is 30 percent lighter than stainless steel and more resistant to scratches. The deep black dial is textured after the Kuroshio, the Black Stream current that runs north past Japan, and the unidirectional bezel is ceramic so it will not scuff. Spring Drive is Seiko's hybrid: a mainspring powers it, but a quartz-regulated glide wheel governs the speed, which is why the 9RA5 is rated to plus or minus 10 seconds a month and its seconds hand sweeps without ticking. It runs for about five days. This is a large watch, 43.8 mm across, 13.8 mm thick and 51.5 mm lug to lug, and 150 g on its titanium bracelet. It lists at $12,600.
